Special Initiatives
The May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust seeks to improve the health, well-being, and economic standing of the impoverished in developing countries. Program interests are restricted to:
- Microfinance programs
- Programs for the advancement of education
- Clean water and sanitation projects in rural areas
- Health programs and services
The Trust’s grantmaking through each of the Special Initiatives is limited, representing a small percentage of its overall funding. The Trust funds organizations that are very experienced in these areas and can best leverage grant dollars. Unsolicited proposals are not accepted for the Special Initiatives — grantmaking in these areas is currently by invitation only.
