Stanley Smith Horticultural TrustOverviewThe Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust was created in 1970 by May Smith, in honor of her late husband. The Trust supports education and research in ornamental horticulture, primarily in North and South America. The Trust makes grants to organizations that are recognized as 501(c)(3) public charities by the United States Internal Revenue Service, and to non-U.S. organizations that can demonstrate that they would meet the requirements for such status. The Trust provides support in the following areas:
The Trust does not fund endowments or indirect costs, and grants normally do not exceed $20,000. The Trust also does not fund projects concerned primarily with agriculture, environmental issues, science education, or horticultural therapy. If so, current application guidelines will be sent to you. Reporting GuidelinesThe Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust requires a report from each grantee which confirms that the funds granted were used for the intended purpose. There is no standard report form. However, narrative and financial descriptions of how grant funds were spent should be submitted and should incorporate information outlined in the Guidelines for Grant Reporting. Foundation StatusThe Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust has been recognized by the IRS as a private foundation, exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
