The Greygates Foundation

Overview

The Greygates Foundation was created in 2001 by J. Ronald Gibbs to provide grants to organizations that serve the needs of children, the elderly, the disabled, or the disadvantaged, and to organizations that promote animal welfare or wildlife preservation. The Foundation makes grants to organizations that are recognized as registered charities by the Canada Revenue Agency, to support projects worldwide. The grant award limit is $3,000. Grants are paid in Canadian dollars. The Foundation generally funds smaller nonprofit organizations, but is not limited to such organizations. The Foundation provides support in the following areas:

  • General operating support
  • Capacity building
  • Program support
  • Equipment
  • Tuition assistance

Areas of Interest

In 2007, the Foundation paid out grants totaling over $63,000, which were distributed as shown among the following program areas:

  • Arts & Culture - 3%
  • Children & Youth - 33%
  • Education - 9%
  • Health - 16%
  • Human Services - 30%
  • Animal Welfare or Wildlife Preservation - 9%

Application Procedures

The Foundation has no proposal submission deadline, and proposals are accepted on a rolling basis. Applicants are notified promptly when their proposals are received but should expect to wait three to six months for notification of a decision.

Reporting Guidelines

The Greygates Foundation requires a report from each grantee which confirms that the funds granted were used for the intended purpose. There is no standard report form. Brief narrative and financial descriptions of how grant funds were spent should be submitted within one year from receipt of funding.

Foundation Status

The Greygates Foundation functions as a donor advised fund of Vancouver Foundation, Vancouver, BC, Canada. The application process is not associated with Vancouver Foundation.
