Ruth M. Collins

Ruth Collins is a Trustee of the May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, and its Administrator. Ruth has worked with the Trust since its founding in 1989, having experienced all aspects of its operations, as well as with three other trusts established by the Smiths. Her company, AdminiTrust LLC, provides administrative services to the Trust and other private and charitable entities. Ms. Collins is a trustee of the Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust and serves on the Alumni Council for San Domenico School. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Santa Clara University and a Master’s degree in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco.

Amy Freeman
Director of Programs

Amy Freeman joined the Trust as Director of Programs in 2018. Amy’s philanthropic experience includes seven years at Pacific Foundation Services serving as Senior Program Officer and Executive Director for multiple clients including Sunlight Giving and the Morris Stulsaft Foundation, Program Director for the Walter S. Johnson Foundation, and Program Officer at the Stuart Foundation. Prior to entering philanthropy, Amy was the founding Executive Director of the Alameda County Foster Youth Alliance, a coalition organization that advocated for systems improvement for foster youth. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts from Fordham University and a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco.

Dan Gaff
Grants Manager

Dan Gaff is the Trust’s Grants Manager. Before joining the Trust in 2014, Dan had eight years of experience in domestic and international philanthropy and grantmaking, most recently as a Senior Program Manager at the American Himalayan Foundation. He is active in the Northern California chapter of PEAK Grantmaking (formerly the Grants Managers Network), where he currently serves as Chair.  Dan received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the College of William and Mary, and a Master’s degree in Music History from the University of Virginia.

Patricia Rodgers
Grants Associate

Patricia Rodgers first joined AdminiTrust in 2007 and returned as Grants Associate in 2018.  She has over 25 years of administrative support experience in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector in the San Francisco Bay Area.  In addition to positions in membership services and development at both small and large nonprofit organizations, she has also been an administrative assistant at several Bay Area universities, including UC Berkeley, UCSF, San Francisco State University, and the University of San Francisco’s Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management.  She holds a Master’s degree in English from Boston University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and French from UC Davis.

Elisabeth Cutler
Senior Program Officer – Foster Youth

Elisabeth Cutler is the Program Officer for the Trust’s Foster Youth program area. Elisabeth joined the Trust in 2013, and she brings more than fifteen years of experience in research and evaluation in K-16 education. Prior to joining the Trust, Elisabeth was a Senior Analyst for Research and Policy at Breakthrough Collaborative, where her research and writing focused on policies and practices to increase educational opportunities for underserved students. Elisabeth received a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Barnard College and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from Brown University. She represents the Trust with the Youth Transitions Funders Group and the California College Pathways Funder Alliance.

Kelly Kent
Senior Program Officer – Elders

Kelly Kent is the Program Officer for the Trust’s Elders program area. Before joining the Trust in the fall of 2018, Kelly spent 20 years working in program development and systems change related work at the intersection of affordable housing and healthcare services for older adults and other vulnerable populations. He has worked for multiple national intermediaries and nonprofit organizations such as the Corporation for Supportive Housing, NeighborWorks America, and SAGE. Kelly completed his undergraduate degree in African-American and American Studies, and his Master’s degree in Urban Planning with a concentration in Real Estate Finance and Housing Policy, at the University of Kansas.

Bill Lockwood
Senior Program Officer – Veterans

Bill Lockwood is the Program Officer for the Trust’s Veterans and Military Families grantmaking. Prior to joining the Trust in 2014, he served as the Director of the Wounded Warrior Careers program with the National Organization on Disability, supporting veterans with serious disabilities in their transition to education and careers following military service. Bill retired from the U.S. Army in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel and began a career in Human Resources and Career Development. He received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota, and a Master’s in History from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Lisa L. Trygg
Senior Program Officer – People with Disabilities

Lisa Trygg is the Program Officer for the Trust’s grantmaking in the program area of Youth and Adults with Disabilities. Before she joined the Trust in 2009, Lisa had more than 20 years of experience in corporate and private philanthropy, with an emphasis on people with disabilities. In addition to this professional experience, she has been involved with people with disabilities in her personal life through volunteer activities, most notably as a lead parent counselor for the Children’s Tumor Foundation, and as a fundraising volunteer for several community nonprofit service providers. Lisa received a Master’s degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
